Audience

This event is suitable for anyone working with adults at risk, either in a professional or voluntary capacity, Designated Leads within organisations and individuals who hold a strategic responsibility for Safeguarding adults at risk within their organisation. Please note there is a £15.00 fee to attend this event. Two identical sessions are being offered (morning OR afternoon). Please choose just one. An invoice will be sent to your manager on receipt of a completed application via the website.

Aim

To provide practical workshops to improve understanding and local practice in relation to both capacity Assessment and Risk Assessment.

Learning Outcomes

Workshop 1: Assessing Capacity – Practical Skills:

By the end of the seminar participants should be able to:

  • Understand their roles and responsibilities under the MCPP
  • Using case scenarios, apply the principles of mental capacity to practice situations
  • Be able to assess capacity and undertake best interests decision-making using evidence based practice tools
  • Have an awareness of learning from case reviews about the use of mental capacity legislation in the UK

Workshop 2: Risk Assessment:

By the end of the seminar participants should be able to:

  • Understand key principles of good practice in risk assessment, including service user involvement in risk management
  • Using case scenarios explore the role of risk assessment in safeguarding practice
  • Be able to assess risk using evidence based risk assessment tools
  • Be able to adopt a think family approach to the management of risk within safeguarding practice
  • Have an awareness of learning from case reviews about risk assessment

Venue, Parking & Refreshments

St Paul’s Centre is located in the heart of St Helier, along New Street.

The venue is easily accessible and has disability access.

Please note there is no parking available on site. The nearest car park is at Minden Place.

Please note that lunch is not provided at this event. There are a number of sandwich takeaways and cafes within a short walk or bring a packed lunch which can be eaten on the premises. Tea and coffee will be provided free of charge.
