This briefing event is intended for Senior staff, SPB members and Ministers with statutory and management responsibility for protecting vulnerable children and young people and SPB members.
The aim of this seminar is to increase understanding of the reasons for conducting serious case reviews (SCRs). It also aims to improve the kowledge and practice of professionals by sharing the learning from national and local SCRs.
By the end of the seminar the participants should be able to:
- Understand the purpose and function of SCRs, the criteria for commissioning them, referral process and the circumstances in which they review will be convened;
- Understand the procedures and responsibilities around the SCR process including local SCR guidance and procedures;
- Consider the process of Internal Management Report (IMR) writing, and the role of the Overview Report Author;
- Using the learning from SCRs, understand what keeps children and adults safe and protected and what effective inter-agency work looks like.

There are a number of sandwich takeaways and cafes within a short walk or bring a packed lunch which can be eaten on the premises. Tea and coffee will be provided free of charge.
