Championing Safeguarding in Sport: Support for Sport Networking Event

The Safeguarding Partnership Board (SPB) Business Support Team recently attended the Jersey Sport ‘Cross Sport Conversations: Support for Sport’ networking event held at Jersey Rugby Football Club in St Peter.

The event was attended by more than 50 volunteers from a variety of sports clubs across Jersey.

The SPB Team were one of many organisations to have a presence, providing information and leaflets on safeguarding policies and strategies, including:

  • The Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation strategy.
  • The IICSA and Truth Project Thematic report – relating to sexual abuse in sports which provides us with the learning to take forward in Jersey. Read the report here.

The team had lots of positive conversations with sports leaders who showed a real interest in safeguarding training, ensuring robust governance and developing a relationship with the Safeguarding Partnership Board.

Natalie Spooner, Programme Manager, SPB, said:

“The event was an excellent opportunity for us to network with local sports providers and spread the message that safeguarding is everyone’s business. Effective safeguarding measures are key to ensuring children and young people are safe in sport.”

A handout was provided for attendees highlighting the key messages relating to safeguarding children and young people in sport. Download the handout here.
